The Guitar in School Project's main objective is to bring classical music into the school environment. Since 2008, more than 5,000 students have been impacted by performances held directly in classrooms, in an acoustic format. The initiative allows students to have direct contact with the natural sound of the instruments, an increasingly rare experience in a world dominated by digital technologies.
The educational concerts are conducted by guitarists Welton Nadai and Edson Travaina. During the performances, works by renowned composers of classical, art, and popular music are presented to the students as a great novelty. Each piece is explained, promoting a connection between the history of music and the repertoire, enriching the students' understanding. All the sounds, timbres, and rhythms of the guitar enchant the students, filling the room with joy.
O projeto tem como um de seus pilares a valorização da experiência auditiva pura, sem a mediação de dispositivos eletrônicos, permitindo que os alunos explorem o som natural do violão. A iniciativa já percorreu diversas escolas públicas de Rio Claro e região, contribuindo para a formação cultural e cognitiva dos estudantes, principalmente nas fases iniciais da vida, quando a aquisição de habilidades cognitivas é mais acentuada.
Além de expandir o conhecimento musical, o projeto também contribui para a preservação de obras de compositores cuja relevância muitas vezes não recebe a devida atenção na mídia de massa. Ao apresentar compositores como Heitor Villa-Lobos, a proposta é garantir que a herança cultural da música erudita continue a ser apreciada pelas futuras gerações.
Welton Nadai graduated from the Tatuí/SP Dramatic and Musical Conservatory, holds a degree in music and a postgraduate degree in Art and Education; he has released several albums and spearheaded various cultural projects. Edson Travaina is a guitarist who graduated from the Cantareira Faculty's Higher School of Music in São Paulo, participated in several festivals, and worked as a guitar teacher at the "Maestro Ernst Mahle" School of Music in Piracicaba. Since 2009, he has been a music educator for the Guri Project in the cities of Iracemápolis and Santa Bárbara d'Oeste.
